About An Ounce of Kibou

An Ounce of Kibou, Inc. is a nonprofit organization devoted to expanding access to mindfulness-centered experiences that support inner steadiness, self-awareness, and emotional well-being.

Guided by the understanding that healing begins within, our work invites individuals to slow down, reconnect with their breath and inner wisdom, and cultivate presence in the midst of life’s challenges. Through gentle, non-judgmental offerings rooted in mindfulness principles, we create spaces that honor dignity, choice, and the inherent capacity for growth.

An Ounce of Kibou exists to make these practices accessible especially to those who may not otherwise have the opportunity to engage in them. Our offerings are experiential and educational in nature, designed to support reflection, resilience, and connection without diagnosing, treating, or labeling human experience.

At its heart, An Ounce of Kibou is about hope made tangible not as something to strive for, but something to touch, breathe, and live. One moment of presence. One act of care. One ounce of hope.

About the Founder

Elaine Y. Scales is the heart behind An Ounce of Kibou, Inc., a nonprofit born from a deep calling to make mindfulness-centered healing experiences accessible, humane, and rooted in dignity.

Her work is guided by a devotion to presence, the understanding that healing begins when we slow down, listen inwardly, and allow ourselves to meet life as it is. Through mindfulness, sound, and stillness, Elaine creates spaces where authenticity is welcomed, inner wisdom is trusted, and growth unfolds gently rather than by force.

An Ounce of Kibou was founded in response to a simple but profound truth: many people long for spaces of reflection, grounding, and care, yet do not have access to them. Elaine envisioned a nonprofit that would remove barriers, honor the whole person, and offer moments of steadiness and hope without labels, judgment, or expectation.

Known for her calm, compassionate presence and intuitive guidance, Elaine holds space in a way that is both soft and steady. Whether guiding a meditation, sharing sound, or sitting together in silence, her work invites others to reconnect with themselves and remember the sanctuary that already lives within.

Elaine’s offering is not about fixing or becoming someone new, but about returning to breath, to presence, and to what is true. In this way, An Ounce of Kibou is both an organization and an invitation: to begin again, one moment at a time.
